Our Next Step: To renovate and expand Camp Tamarack as the premier camp site for personal and social development of young people, preparing them for future challenges.

Our region’s largest leadership and character building program

Each year, thousands of girls, boys, and their families are impacted by the benefits of scouting in our region. From ages K-20, scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives. There is no other program that provides a full life cycle of age-appropriate developmental programming that wholistically -physically and mentally challenges youth to be their best. The results speak for themselves.

Advantages of Boy Scout Camps

Boy Scout camps in the USA offer numerous advantages, including:

  1. Skill Development: Camps provide a hands-on environment for Scouts to learn valuable skills such as camping, cooking, first aid, and outdoor survival.

  2. Leadership Opportunities: Scouts often take on leadership roles during camp activities, which helps build confidence and leadership skills.

  3. Teamwork and Friendship: Camp fosters teamwork through group activities, helping Scouts build lasting friendships and learn the importance of collaboration.

  4. Connection to Nature: Camps encourage a deeper appreciation for the outdoors, promoting environmental stewardship and outdoor ethics.

  5. Physical Activity: Engaging in various outdoor activities contributes to physical fitness and encourages a healthy lifestyle.

  6. Personal Growth: Scouts develop resilience, independence, and problem-solving skills by navigating challenges and new experiences.

  7. Community Service: Many camps incorporate community service projects, teaching Scouts the value of giving back and contributing to their communities.

  8. Cultural Exchange: Camps often attract Scouts from diverse backgrounds, providing an opportunity for cultural exchange and understanding.

  9. Structured Environment: The camp setting provides a structured environment where Scouts can thrive, learn discipline, and develop routines.

  10. Certification Opportunities: Many camps offer specialized training and certification in skills like lifeguarding, wilderness first aid, and more.

Scouting Builds Positive, Sustained Character

We all know Scouting’s goal is to prepare young people for life, but does it work?

Scouting was put to the test over the course of three years, when a research team from Tufts University worked with the Boy Scouts of America’s Cradle of Liberty Council to measure the character attributes of both Scouts and non-Scouts — all with a goal of better understanding the character development of youth as it was happening.

On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.”

— The Scout Oath
